GIRL: Hello, everyone! Today, together with my brother, we’re going to choose appropriate outfits for two different occasions and we’re going to explain the term ‘capsule wardrobe.’ Jim, are you ready?
BOY: Yes, Margaret, I’m ready! So what is a capsule wardrobe?
G: It is a collection of clothes that match, and thanks to that you can create many different sets out of them. Thanks to that you can have not too many clothes and you always have something to wear. My wardrobe is an example!
B: Margaret, would should be there in a capsule wardrobe?
G: First of all, your clothes should be in neutral colours, because these are easy to match. Black and white are the classics, but dark blue, grey and red are also useful.
B: I see. Whichever of these colours you put together they will always look good. That’s clever.
G: And practical. Now, you should definitely have a pair of dark jeans and black trousers for a more formal occasion. A few neutral‑coloured T‑shirts are a must too. Girls should have one or two dresses which can be styled for formal or casual occasions by adding some accessories. This should be simple – some scarves and belts, a handbag and sunglasses.
B: And boys? What should they have in their capsule wardrobes?
G: Of course jeans and T‑shirts. They should also have a couple of neutral‑coloured shirts. Some jackets and shoes that can be paired with different outfits. A coat, warm sweater and a pair of sports shoes are universal and should be there in boys and girls wardrobes.
B: I like the idea of a capsule wardrobe.
G: Yes, it’s a great idea. With a capsule wardrobe it takes much less time to make decisions in the morning.
B: This must be very convenient! So, where are you going this time?
G: I’m going to the theatre with my classmates and I’m wondering what to wear.
I was thinking about the following outfit: a shirt, a skirt, a jacket, elegant shoes, and a watch. What do you think?
B: Well, I think it’s too elegant.
Let’s leave this jacket, shoes, and watch; they are nice! Maybe you should wear jeans and this white T‑shirt instead?
G: Nooo, I don’t think so. Definitely NOT! It’s too informal.
You’re right, let’s leave the jacket with the T‑shirt, a watch and shoes. What about the sweater and these trousers? They’re more elegant.
B: That looks nice, but you know, it’s warm outside. I think that the sweater with a T‑shirt and jacket is just too much.
G: Good point. So maybe let’s skip the sweater and… Oh, I know! I love this scarf. I want to wear it.
B: Perfect! It’s elegant, but not too formal and not too casual. I think we’ve got it!
G: Marvellous! Now it’s your turn. What’s the occasion?
B: I’m going to my friend’s birthday party. I was thinking about this… white shirt, trousers, elegant shoes, a bow tie…
G: Is it a party or a prom? This outfit is very formal! Let’s replace trousers with jeans…
B: You’re right, it was too formal, but now it looks terrible. Jeans don’t match this white shirt and bow tie. What about this blue shirt without a bow tie?
G: It looks better now! I don’t like these shoes, though…
B: They’re also too elegant, I’m going to wear these. There! I think it looks great!
G: Fantastic! It’s casual and stylish. I think we’re ready to go. That was fast. This is why I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe! Thanks for watching and I hope you got inspired!
