Do you use your computer every day? Do you watch films, play computer games, look for information, or chat with your friends? So probably you use the Internet. Everybody does so!
The Internet is a big system of computers around the world. You might watch giraffes, a group of lions, and other animals in Africa. You might even watch astronauts flying in the rocket! Or your friends pictures from holidays.
Your parents also use the Internet when they want to contact your teachers or buy something. But remember, there are people on the street that you don't know. There are also people on the Internet that you don't know. They are strangers to you. So when you get a message from strangers, don't read it. Tell your parents about it.
On the Internet, talk only to your family, friends, and teachers. Don't share your personal things on the Internet. Your school, home address, telephone number, even your pictures must be secret. This is private information, and don't share it online.
So never, never, never give your personal information to strangers.
Sometimes you have a very nice photo of you and your friends, and you want to share it with the world. That's great! Send the picture to your friends or family, but remember, do not send any pictures to strangers. You never know why they want your photos!
You sometimes get a lot of messages. When you get a strange message, don't open it. Don't click on links that look strange. Read everything carefully. One wrong click, and you download a virus!
Ask your parents to check if the message or link is okay. They can block strangers.
There are many websites on the Internet, but sometimes you can click on the picture or video that is not safe. When you don't like something on the website, ask your parents for help. When you want to download a film, a song, or a game, ask your parents first. You don't want a virus on your computer, do you?
Your parents or teacher can find a programme to keep your computer safe. It's a good idea to have a strong password to your computer. A good password has big letters, small letters, and numbers. Remember to change it every month. Your passwords are secret.
Remember, when you see something bad on the Internet, tell your parents about it. They will always help you.
The Internet is great, but you must be safe when you use it. That's why: Don't give your private information! Don't talk to strangers! Don't click on links you don't know! Talk to your parents!
