First Aid Kit

First aid kit

First Aid Kits come in many shapes and sizes. 1st responders may carry large boxes filled with a variety of medical items. However, a regular person like you usually needs only the most basic items. So, what should each kit contain?

Disposable Gloves

Before you can administer first aid, it’s crucial to put on disposable gloves. They protect you from getting into contact with an injured person’s blood. They also ensure that everything you use remains sterile. One of the basic rules of first aid is to avoid infection or cross‑contamination, so they should always be at hand.

Gauze

No matter if we deal with a non‑life‑threatening cut or a serious injury, gauzes come in handy. They can be used for a variety of reasons — from cleaning wounds to securing them. If you want to stuff your kit with gauzes, make sure you’ve got scissors on hand as well. After all, the gauze should always be fit to the wound it’s covering!

Antiseptic Solution

Whether someone has a scrap or a bigger wound, you should not attempt to dress it before ensuring it’s as clean as you can reasonably make it. That’s why you need an antiseptic solution. Apply it to the gauze before dressing a wound.

Dressings

You don’t want the wound to get infected. That’s why you should have sterile dressings in your first aid kid. Since they come in vacuum‑sealed packets, it’s important to handle them with care and only take them out once you’re ready to dress the wound.

Bandages

Bandages are some of the most common items found in first aid kits. They not only cover the wound but also hold dressings in place, so they’re the very first step in protecting the injury against both movement and infection. Don’t forget to pack safety tips or sticky tape along with them. They will help keep the bandage in place!

CPR Mask

In dire situations, you might need to perform CPR on an injured person. To avoid the transfer of bodily fluids, such as blood or vomit, you should always use a CPR mask. It allows you to deliver air to the person being rescued without risking contact with any foreign substances.
