Lesson plan overview (Process)
Introduction
1. The teacher defines the aim of the course leading to the conclusion about the need to care for the natural environment. He explains that the students will have the opportunity to reflect on the importance of pro‑ecological activities for the community, for the country and for themselves.
2. The teacher asks students what methods of caring for the environment they know and use in their homes.
Realization
1. The teacher and students start the „Challenge: Cleaning!” Lesson. Students listen to the first part of the recording. The teacher asks questions introducing reading the text „Cleaning the world”.
Who, in your opinion, throws garbage away in forbidden places?
What are the factors that make the man do it?
How can you name such a man?
The teacher should refer to students' life experiences and allow them for free expression.
2. Reading a fragment of the text by Paweł Wakuła „Cleaning up the world” from the book entitled „On the trail of a six‑pack” in the lesson „Wyzwanie: sprzątanie” with special attention to the characters that help the ranger clean up the forest (task 1). Text analysis for the message contained in it. A sentence that should be pointed out: „By polluting the environment, people are cutting the branch they are sitting on!” (Task 2).
3. Repeating the fragment of the text about the World Clean Up campaign; searching for information indicated by the teacher:
What is this action about?
When does it take place?
Who participated in this action?
Since which year has it been organised in Poland?
What is the significance for Poland and the world?
Preparation of notes from selected information.
4. Students start the next part of the recording. Then they get acquainted with the interactive map showing how to sort the garbage. The teacher discusses this exercise. He runs a talk with students about ways to care for the natural environment - the teacher should encourage students to fulfill their commitments; even the small ones, but realized, are of greater educational importance than great and only started.
5. Students carry out task 4 improving the knowledge about waste sorting and acquired vocabulary. Then in pairs they talk about ways of caring for the environment, they write down their proposals (task 5).
6. Individual work: students come up with a slogan that encourages others to care for the environment.
Summary
The teacher interviews students about their resolutions. He gives students a short survey about the class (this time the students should evaluate the teacher's work, if the lesson was interesting and whether they felt motivated).
Homework
Prepare a poster encouraging to take part in the world cleaning event.

Texts and recordings
Challenge: cleaning!
What ways of caring for the environment do you know? Are you trying to care for the environment? Is it something all of us can do? How do you call a person that e.g. leaves his/her waste in the forest? Why do you think people do it?
You already know that Clean Up the World event takes place every third weekend of September and that it is about people getting together to clean up waste discarded in random places. In fact, you can care for the environment every day, not just once a year. All of us can separate the waste we generate in our households.
Do not put into the containers:
large waste items, like furniture (so‑called bulky waste)
waste electric and electronic equipment
batteries, thermometers, light bulbs
construction materials
These types of waste should be placed in special containers.
Make sure you remember how to separate your waste!
What else, apart from separating the waste, can all of us do for the environment?
Not everybody knows that caring for the environment makes sense. Maybe we should encourage them?
