Modern patriotism
Every Polish citizen has certain rights and obligations specified by the Constitution.
Some citizens decide to do more than they are obliged to - they are not only citizens, but good citizens.
There are many types of modern patriotism.
You will understand, that patriotism takes many forms and can be expressed not only during wartime.
You will experience patriotism expressed through art and will be able to discuss that form of expression.
You will be able to name and explain various types of modern patriotism: cultural, social and economic one.
Modern patriotism breaks with the erroneouserroneous belief that love for Poland is something archaicarchaic or shamefulshameful. On the contrary, the attitude of respect and devotion to our homeland today has not lost its relevancerelevance. At the same time, the term „modern” suggests that some traditional categories and ways of cultivating patriotism shaped during the strugglestruggle for independence should be supplemented withsupplemented with a new look today. Film "The Flag". W projekcie “Flaga” jego autor Michał Majdak przedstawił polską flagę narodową jako graficzną kompozycję wody i światła. Delikatna powierzchnia reaguje na dotyk i ruch, tworząc grę barw. Niezależnie od manipulacji powierzchnia wraca do swojego spokojnego stanu i znów pojawia się biało-czerwona flaga. Technicznie flaga odbija się w tafli wody, toteż niezależnie od tego w jaki sposób wzburzymy tą taflę wody czy to dotykając palcem, czy przeciągając dłonią po powierzchni zawsze po pewnym czasie woda uspokaja się i wraca na swoje miejsce, a flaga jest dobrze widoczna.

Another interesting possibility of expressing love to our homeland are the activities of the Academy of Modern Patriotism (Akademia Nowoczesnego Patriotyzmu). The projects implemented under the auspices of the programme connect tradition with modernity: they cherish the beauty of cultural heritage, prepare for responsible self‑government and social responsibility, and promote economic patriotism. Patriotic songs are not only old songs from a yellowed songbook, but also modern hits. Their authors argue with history, describe the beauty of the country, confess their love for their homeland, but also ridicule national flaws. Many songs are ambiguous, they provoke reflection, or are a voice in a discussion. For sure you know some songs like that. If not, there is a list in your e‑textbook. You can also search for them on the Internet. Vote in class for the song that you like best. Look for new music tracks that talk about love for Poland, its history, great Poles. These can be songs from the last ten years. Listen to these songs. Create your own Top List of Patriotic Songs. You can use this list during celebrations during national holidays.
Imagine you are going abroad for 10 years. Which of your "patriotic habits" will you take with you? You can consider everything that you associate as our patriotic equipment – dishes, books, music CDs, customs, rituals... Save and put on the board everything, that will be in your suitcase. Talk to other students about what they would take with them.
