Presenter: Welcome to our programme. Today let’s take a look at the internet. Probably there is no such person who doesn’t know what the internet is or how we use it. However, have you ever wondered what your life would look like without this useful global network system? Our guests are going to answer this question. Hello Julie. How often do you use the internet?

J: Hello everyone! To be honest, I think I use the internet all the time.

P: So, probably it is difficult to imagine, but what would your everyday life look like without the internet?

J: I don’t even want to imagine a situation like that! Definitely, I would feel alone without social media. I would feel strange if I couldn’t check what was going on with my friends for a whole day. I wouldn't be able to communicate with my friends so easily, especially with the ones who live far away from me. It would be really challenging not to use social networks because I enjoy following celebrities and scrolling posts on their blogs. Unfortunately, I can’t think of any activities that I could do if I didn’t have internet access. I think I would simply be bored to death!

P: Thank you Julie. Tom, what about you?

T: I use the internet from time to time, usually for storing data in the cloud or for entertainment such as watching films or playing computer games online. However, if I couldn’t use the internet, I would watch films which are available on TV or DVDs. It wouldn’t be that horrible. When it comes to playing computer games, I would probably look for another kind of amusement like playing board games with my peers. Or I would attempt to do some sports and go to the gym. Since I don’t spend much time surfing the internet, I wouldn’t mind the lack of it.

P: Alright. Thank you Tom. Cristine, would you mind not using the internet?

C: Hmm, that’s a good question. I generally use the internet to broaden my knowledge. I browse websites or use search engines in order to study or find out new facts. It happens to me that I listen to some science podcasts. Oh, and almost every day, I communicate with my classmates on the internet. Instant messaging is very practical in this case. I think that without the internet, everything would be much more time consuming. Obviously, I would manage to replace internet communication with simply calling my classmates or texting. Nevertheless, I cannot imagine going through books or encyclopaedias from cover to cover instead of using fast search engines or other convenient software.
