What is Art?Art has been around for a very long time. It includes things like paintingpainting, drawingdrawing, sculpturesculpture, and more. People have been creating art for thousands of years using things like charcoalcharcoal, paint, and clayclay.
Some popular types of art include portraitsportraits, landscapeslandscapes, and still lifes. Portraits are pictures of people. Frida Kahlo painted portraits and self‑portraitsself‑portraits. Her most famous work is “The Two Fridas”, which is also a double self‑portrait.
Landscapes are pictures of nature, like mountains or forests. Claude Monet loved to paint landscapes, especially the French countryside. One of his many known paintings is “Impression, Sunrise”, which shows the rise of the sun by the sea, two boats in the foregroundforeground and a city in the backgroundbackground.
Still lifes are pictures of objects like flowers or fruit. A great example of still lifestill life is “Sunflowers” by Vincent Van Gogh.
PostersPosters are another type of art that can be used to advertiseadvertise things like concerts, movies or elections. They often have dynamicdynamic and uniqueunique designs that catch people's attentioncatch people's attention. One example can be a poster “Hope” showing Barack Obama looking into the future, which was shown to the public before the election in 2008.
Galleries and museums are places where people can go to see different kinds of artworkartwork. The world’s most‑visitedmost‑visited museum is the Louvre Museum in Paris, which is the home of some of the best‑known works of art, including the Mona Lisa.
