Schools often organise events which encourage students to learn. One such event might be a science fair. You are going to read about three students who took part in such an event. They talk about their own projects. Were the projects interesting or boring? Do you think school should organise such events?

Science Fair Projects at SchoolKate, 13
My class took part in a science fair at school. We prepared a scientificscientific project about water filtrationwater filtration methods. At first it seemed complicated, but it was not at all. We needed to use materialsmaterials such as coalcoal, food colourfood colour, cups of water, and coffee filterscoffee filters. First of all, our task was to check which home method works best. What is more, we wanted to check if cheap eco‑friendly methods can be as effective as professional ones. Finally, we had to displaydisplay the resultsresults to other students. I suggested that a bar graphbar graph would be the best solution in this case.

I love sciencescience, that is why I was so excited when I found out about the science fair in our school! I am always the leader in such projects and it was me who created the topic: “What makes ice melt faster.” My classmates were a bit surprised, but they agreed to prepare it. I explained that we only need solidssolids such as sodium chloridesodium chloride (salt), sugar, sand, and ice cubesice cubes. I did some researchdid some research before and our team’s hypothesishypothesis was that salt would be the winner. After doing some observationsobservations of the ice cubes’ reaction, we put the datadata into a table and presented the result to other students. I think we managed to prove our hypothesis.

Unfortunately, my group isn’t good at science. However, we still had to prepare an experiment which would be on displayon display during a science fair at school. We finally came up with an idea for our topic. We wanted to check which baitbait works best for a homemade fly traptrap. It sounds ridiculous or funny, but just think how many times you couldn’t get rid of an annoying fly. Such projects are very useful and practical. The whole procedureprocedure of carrying outcarrying out an experiment was quite easy, we just needed to prepare 4 traps using plastic bottles with various liquidsliquids inside. We used honey, maple syrup, vinegar, and corn syrup. We made a decision to observe the traps for 3 days, and then present the data on a clear round pie chartpie chart using different colours. I was curious which liquid would turn out to be the best.
