Ernst Vendermeyer, hurdler: I am really happy that I became a professional hurdler. This sport helped me with being more organised and more focused on my goals. Early wake‑ups, everyday trainings and sticking to a healthy diet make me neatneatneat and punctual.  This often means you have to push yourself beyond limitspush yourself beyond limitspush yourself beyond limits, but it is worth it. It was hard at the beginning, but now I am proud of myself. Also, you can retire early, because a career in sports is quite short. Then, you can choose other interesting jobs, related to sports or not, and practise what you love in your free time.

Anne Whigley, a triathlete: The best thing about being a pro is that what started as a hobby can one day become your profession. This way, you do what you love and you earn money for doing it! It might not be a 6‑digit sum, but you can get a considerable incomeconsiderable incomeconsiderable income, and an additional income from sponsorships and advertisingsponsorships and advertising sponsorships and advertising, if you are famous. However, there are also disadvantages. When you are a professional athlete, you work under a lot of pressure. Everyone thinks you will always win, so it can be really stressful. That is why, you often work with psychologists to become less stressed.

Takeo Takeuchi, a ski jumper: Sport has taught me a lot about myself and others. What I love the most about my profession is the diverse lifediverse lifediverse life I can lead. I really started enjoying my sport when I started winning. People recognised me in the street, asked for an autograph, and celebrities invited me to parties. But there are some disadvantages, too. Hellen Bogart, a tennis player: I have become more healthy thanks to the fact that I am a tennis player. I have enough exercise during workouts, so I stay fit. Unfortunately, when you exercise so much, it is easier to have an injuryinjuryinjury and this can easily ruin your career. So in my profession, it is important to get back in shapeget back in shapeget back in shape very quickly. There is an even more important aspect of our job: coping with failurecoping with failure [cope with failure]coping with failure. It was difficult for me at first, but I learnt to accept failure as a natural part of my life as a professional athlete.
