School in Great BritainIn the UK, kids must attend school from age 5 to 18. The English school yearschool year starts on the 1st of September and ends in the middle of July. Children go to school for 190 days duringduring a school year.
The school year has three termsterms: autumn, spring and summer term. BetweenBetween the terms students have short breaksbreaks that last a week or two. There's also a half‑term breakhalf‑term break in the school calendar.
The school day usually begins at 8 or 8:30 in the morning with an assemblyassembly and finishes at about 3:30 in the afternoon. At noon there is a lunch breaklunch break. During the lunch break children play outsideoutside, eat in a school canteenschool canteen and spend time in the corridorcorridor. After school, some kids stay for extra activities. In some schools, children must wear uniformswear uniforms.
