Although many people say that…, I still believe that… That is how democracies… If somebody decides not to…, they give up… They simply let others… The argument against referendums might be… However, in a democratic country we assume that…

Although many people say that the result of the Brexit referendum did not really show the real will of the nation due to low turnout, I still believe that in democratic countries people should be given the chance to state what they want their leaders to do, and then accept the consequences of their decisions. That is how democracies work. If somebody decides not to exercise their right to have a say, they give up their possibility to participate in the decision making process. They simply let others choose for them. The argument against referendums might be that people are not informed enough about the matters they vote for or against. However, in a democratic country we assume that everyone has the right to express their opinion through voting, no matter how informed or educated one is.

say how often a president is elected and how long the whole process is,
list the most important events which happen during the election year,
give information about when the new president starts his or her term,

The other day I've learned about presidential elections in the U.S. Let me share some of what I know!

A new president is elected every four years in the USA, and it is a long and complicated process. The campaign, primary elections, transition of power, and many other events actually take the whole year.

One event which always happens during the election year is Super Tuesday, which is the day when the greatest number of states hold their primaries. Another important thing are parties’ national conventions, when each party’s representative is chosen. The next major moment is the general vote in November.

The new president takes his or her oath of office in January the following year. After the ceremony at the Capitol, the new president goes straight to work.
