If I were a politician, I would introduce the right to work for teenagers under the age of 16. I could learn responsibility and have a chance to earn some money for my extra expenses. What is more, it seems to be a reasonable idea to let people under 16 travel and be treated as adults. The faster we start being responsible for our actions, the more respectful we will be.

Nowadays politicians arouse controversy. They live in the spotlight and there is easy access to information to check details of their private life thanks to the Internet. Some people claim that politicians seem to have a lot of freedom, which they tend to overuse. Therefore, there are advantages and disadvantages of being an influential politician.

The major advantage is the power to change some people’s situations. Having an impact on money distribution e.g. by allocating benefits, a politician can improve the financial situation of many families. By introducing and amending legislation, they can improve different areas of public life, e.g. the educational system. In short, they can try to make the world a slightly better place. What is more, their job seems to be financially rewarding too, as their earnings are often much higher than the regular salary of a person working in the private or public sector.

However, the life of a politician has some disadvantages. Contrary to the arguments stated above, politicians seem to lack privacy. Their actions are observed by others, which means that every mistake they make is widely commented on by the public. Furthermore, by having the possibility of changing the law, politicians take great responsibility. Despite the opportunity to help, they might worsen the life of others by withdrawing regulations which are favourable for a particular group of people.

Being an influential politician has advantages, but also some drawbacks. In my opinion, the most important issue to bear in mind while holding a public office is the reflection that making decisions will have a positive or a negative impact on people. It is the politician’s role to decide whose lives will change and to what extent.
