A jeweller is an exclusive job rich with tradition and fast‑developing future prospects. The profession requires perfect mind‑body coordination and knowledge of metallurgy and gemology which is a science of precious and decorative stones. Manual and technical skills and keeping up to date with new trends and design are also a must.

A jeweller is a person who designs, makes and repairs jewellery either in large manufacturing plants or in local family businesses. They could also be self‑employed and design, make, and sell jewellery online or work in customer service for popular brands.

Patience, good vision, high manual dexterity, attention to detail and sense of aesthetics are essential in jeweller’s job. They must also possess good interpersonal skills as the clients are demanding at times but they also need to learn to accept the responsibility for the items entrusted with them. A 21st century jeweller must keep track of new technologies: digital design and 3D printing are becoming more and more significant technologies in jewellery industry.

There are always people who need their jewellery repaired or designed and made for them which makes it relatively easy to find employment in both small towns and big cities in the country and abroad. In Poland it’s not legally regulated so anyone could do it and no special qualifications are required. However, it might not be the case in other countries.

A person who wishes to become a jeweller should have both artistic and scientific talents. They should be willing to implement new technologies and mix them with traditional ways of jewellery making. Knowledge of the old methods is very important as it allows for creating not only beautiful but also functional pieces. Like in any other fast‑developing discipline, a jeweller should constantly improve their qualifications and broaden their horizons.
