Fire fighting technician
Fire department is no longer limited to tasks related to extinguishing fire as it used to be in the past. Nowadays it handles the broadly defined rescue actions. A fire‑fighting technician is then a person who puts out fire and takes part in rescue actions.
A fire‑fighting technician must be physically fit and in perfect health but also able to make quick and right decisions and have developed spacial imagination which makes it possible to provide necessary help in various situations.
In order to become a fire‑fighting technician one must complete a two‑year training course in a special school and then continue their education in The Main School of Fire Service. Fire‑fighting technicians must constantly improve their skills and broaden their knowledge. That’s why every day they spend some time on both theoretical and practical training. There is a number of areas a fire‑fighting technician may specialise in.
Depending on a character of a given dangerous situation, a firefighter may need to use various objects, devices and pieces of equipment. That’s why in local fire departments there are special units whose members educate themselves in and explore particular areas of fire‑fighting services. Thanks to this division the rescue actions are more efficient and better organised.
We distinguish chemical, technical, diving and high‑mountain rescue. The areas the firefighters specialise in depend on what type of dangerous situations occur in a given region. Once they have completed their training, firefighters are put to work where they still need to improve their qualifications and thus increase the chances for the successful rescue operations. Although there is plenty of job positions in the country, fire‑fighting technicians will also find employment in any other member state of the European Union.
