The profession of driller has been in high demand on the labour market in recent years. Rapid development of the drilling industry makes it possible for a driller to find a well‑paid and satisfying job both in Poland and abroad.

Drillers handle making boreholes in the Earth’s crust or in underground mines. They are also responsible for conducting works related to the assembly and disassembly of drilling equipment, choosing the right technologies, tools and components, operating the devices used during casing and drilling process, as well as in the course of boreholes sealing.

A qualified driller can find employment in companies that conduct drilling or geological works, in mines and on drilling platforms. The continually increasing demand for natural resources and rapid development of geothermal drilling allows drillers to find a promising job with a vast range of career opportunities.

Due to the rather demanding nature of the job, a driller should be physically fit, able to work in tough conditions and have good hand‑eye coordination. Moreover, drillers should also be perceptive, willing to follow specific guidelines and regulations, and have a strong sense of responsibility. In order to increase their market value, drillers should take part in various courses and training. Future drillers won’t have a problem finding a good job with decent salary, as long as they are diligent, thorough and precise.

The profession of drilling technician is highly appreciated on the labour market, but is one that requires considerable involvement and effort.

A drilling technician carries out drilling works in order to find natural resources, such as crude oil, drinking water, natural springs and/or natural gas. They drill the boreholes where wells, anchors, drainage, poles and columns are to be installed. A drilling technician organises and manages the drilling process, as well as overseeing the rigging up and down of various pieces of equipment used on a drill site. They are also responsible for choosing the right equipment and monitoring the correct operation of control and measuring devices.

A drilling technician can find employment in oil or gas companies, facilities where sulphur, rock‑salt or mineral water is mined, as well as in design studios and research institutions. Therefore, the tasks carried out by drilling technicians also vary.

Due to a rather demanding nature of the job, a drilling technician should not only be physically fit and resistant to stress, but also have a strong sense of responsibility. The ability to work in a team and in compliance with strictly regulated procedures is also a must, as there are certain risks that a drilling technician is exposed to while at work. Moreover, a qualified technician should possess general knowledge of mechanics and geology.
