The basic parameter of a page is its sizesizesize. The size of a document in a text editor should be set in accordance with the size of paper on which you will print it. Have in mind the maximum features of your printer. Decide if your document will be printed in the landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) layout and respectively set its orientationorientationorientation in a text editor. Another parameter of a page are marginsmarginsmargins. For the time being let’s focus on the four most important margins: left, right, top and bottom. Margins are spaces between the column of text and the edges of a document. Using them makes the text more readable.
A new document opened in Word is created based on a template (Normal.dotx), which specifies its basic format. The template predefines the A4 paper sizesizesize, portrait orientationorientationorientation, 2.5 cm margins and a default font of a new document.
On the Layout tab, you can find the options: MarginsmarginsMargins, Orientation and Size, which enable setting the parameters of a page. You can access all the otions of the Page Setup group on the Layout tab by clicking the arrow in the bottom right corner of this group.
On the Margins tab in the Page Setup box you can set the orientationorientationorientation of a page and the margins of an edited document.

In Poland the ISO standard is used, which defines three series: A, B and C (envelopes). In the main series (A), the ratio of the longer side of a sheet to the shorter side is . Particular attention must be paid to setting the parameters of a page for documents like booklets or brochures or documents which you plan to bind. Then you should learn the options: Book fold, Gutter (to set a gutter margingutter margingutter margin) or Mirrored in the MarginsmarginsMargins box (to set mirror marginsmirror marginsmirror margins).
When you design various text documents, such as: posters, invitations, leaflets or diplomas, you can use decorative elements of a page such as bordersbordersborders and background colours.
