1) spells correctly in terms of spelling and applying the rules of spelling;

The student consolidates and expands his knowledge about the noun as part of speech.

  • identifies nouns as names of people, things, animals, plants, natural phenomena, feelings;

  • indicates the differences between a proper name and common name;

  • correctly spells proper names and common names.

Lesson plan overview (Process)

Introduction

1. The teacher determines the purpose of the class, which is to consolidate students' knowledge about the noun as a part of speech. The teacher explains that students will remember how to recognize nouns, how to ask for them, and how to categorize them.

Realization

1. The teacher starts the „Naming names” lesson. Students listen to the first part of the recording as an introductory to the topic, and perform task # 1: they write as many names as possible: people, objects, animals, plants, natural phenomena, emotions, emotions that they perceive around themselves. The teacher randomly checks which nouns the students wrote down. He can ask them about the number of words written down (element of competition).

2. The teacher suggests playing game Countries‑Cities and distributes worksheets. Students work in pairs and complete the first three lines.

3. After the game is finished the teacher directs the conversation in such a way that, if possible, students themselves come to the conclusion.

  • Nouns are names of animals, plants, etc.

  • We write them large (private nouns) and a small letter (common nouns).

4. At the end of this part of the lesson the students do exercises 2,5 and 6.

5. The teacher asks students when we ask the question „what?” And when the question „who?” And verifies students' answers. Subsequently, the teacher asks the chosen student to discuss the infographics summarizing this part of the lesson. It is necessary to make sure that all students understand the information so far. To this end, students perform task 3.

6. The next stage of the lesson will be the definition of a noun. Task 4 can help.

7. Teaching game and a word search (two last sentences in the in the abstract). Students in groups have the task of creating other nouns from the given words, changing only one letter. The group that will invent the most is the winner.

Summary

Teacher together with students summarises the lesson. It can be done in a form of a short talk or a quiz.

Example quiz questions:

  • What questions does the noun answer?

  • What does the noun name? List as many categories as you can.

  • Give examples of nouns from each category: feelings, actions, plants, animals, people, natural phenomena.

  • What is the difference between the proper nouns and the common nouns? Give examples.

Homework

Prepare a crossword with the headword „noun”.

Naming names

Every day, you use names to refer to the people, the animals and the objects around you. Today, you will learn what a noun is and how it can be recognised. You will also learn the difference between common and proper names, and learn how to spell both correctly.

Think, when you can use “who?” and when “what?” to ask about words from the exercise above. Which group contains nouns you use “who?” to ask about?

You already know what the nouns are and what questions they answer. Try to complete the definition to learn what are proper nouns and common nouns. Maybe the following questions will help you:
