Maria: What’s wrong Kevin? Why did you stop?
Kevin: Sorry, Maria, I think I will give up. I’m so bad at this.
Maria: Why do you say that? We’ve just started practising.
Kevin: Well, I know, but how can I be good at tennis when I don’t even know how to hold a tennis racket properly.
Maria: You’re doing very well for a beginner, Kevin. When I first started playing tennis, I was terrible at it.
Kevin: But you have always been crazy about tennis. That’s why you are so good at it now.
Maria: Mhm.
Kevin: I remember the day when your favourite tennis player won a tournament. You were so excited about it!
Maria: Oh! Do you mean when Iga Swiatek won French Open in 2020? Everyone was excited about it!
Kevin: Yes! That one!
Maria: It surely motivated me. But I’m still not excellent at tennis. That’s why I keep practising every day. You need to motivate yourself, too.
Kevin: Well, maybe you are right. I shouldn’t give up so early.
Maria: Exactly! Don’t worry about the racket. It just takes time, and a lot of practice!
Kevin: I’ll stop complaining. Would you like to show me that forehand technique one more time?
Maria: Of course!

I am very good/bad at… I think it is because…
In my opinion, it is/it is not difficult to excel at… because… It is both… and sport.
My friend would like to be good at… but… That is why he is worried that… I would like to tell him…
Odpowiedzi:
I am very good at volleyball and swimming. I think it is because I started practising them at a very young age. What is more, I try not to give up when I am a bit less successful.
In my opinion, it is rather difficult to excel at some sports, such as sailing or horse riding. They are both very demanding and extremely expensive. Very few people can afford to practise them.
My friend would like to be really good at volleyball but he has already had some injuries. That is why he is worried that he will never become a professional sportsman. I would like to tell him not to give up or to change to swimming.

Dear…,
Thank you for… I think I can help you.
First of all,…
The second important aspect is… It is really true that...
I think you may try...
Finally, don’t give up as…
I hope this advice will help you.
Take care,
Dear John,
Thank you for your e‑mail. I think I can help you.
First of all, it is really important to find motivation. Ask yourself why you want to do that and repeat it to yourself every day.
The second important thing is regular practice. It is really true that practice makes perfect. Another important key to success is to accept failures and not to be afraid of making mistakes.
I think you may try running because it's quite easy and apart from running shoes, you don't need any equipment to take up this sport.
Finally, the only way to get to the top is not to give up. It will be easy to be resilient if you feel the taste of your first win. Then you will just want to win over and over again.
