I couldn’t listen to the teachers anymore. All I heard was only ‘blah, blah, blah’. Wars and poetry...Who would be interested in such topics!?
I’d been studying for the test all night. When I finally felt I knew the material well enough, I woke up in the morning and it turned out I didn’t remember anything! So, I had to figure something out.
My friends have finished their classes earlier today. They were planning to play a football match. Without me? No way!
I woke up at 12 o’clock. I realised I hadn’t set my alarm clock yesterday. Oh well, things happen. I felt it was too late to go there anyway so I decided to stay at home all day.
I was so sleepy and tired in the morning that I felt one more day off school won’t make a big difference. My bed is my best friend.

One too many days truant or one too many classes skipped could lead to serious repercussionsrepercussions [repercussion]repercussions, not only for the child in question but also their parents. One way the UK tries to increase children's school attendanceattendanceattendance is to fine the parents of those who do not show upshow upshow up often enough to school without good reason. This schemeschemescheme was introduced to try and ensure that children attended lessons and schools in order for them to receive the education required later in life. Now obviously if you home schoolhome schoolhome school your child, they are not going to be attending a school in your local area. But if you have registeredregisterregistered your child with your local councillocal councillocal council and they are expected to go to school, if they miss too many days, the governmentgovernmentgovernment is able to give the parents a parenting orderparenting orderparenting order. This is a court issuedcourt issuedcourt issued parenting class that the parents must attend. It also states that the parents must ensure the child's attendance improvesimproveimproves.
Another form of punishmentpunishmentpunishment for a child not attending school frequentlyfrequentlyfrequently enough is a finefinefine. This can vary in price, it usually begins at £60 but can rise to £120 if not paid within the time given. Failure to pay this fine could result in the parents being prosecutedprosecuted [prosecute]prosecuted leading to further court dates and more serious charges. If prosecuted, you could get a fine of up to £2,500, community servicecommunity servicecommunity service or a possible prison sentenceprison sentenceprison sentence. So clearly the UK government wants your children to be educated.
There are also programmesprogrammes [programme]programmes in which parents can get assistanceassistanceassistance in getting their children to school. A supervisorsupervisorsupervisor can be appointed for your child to make sure they are attending school. This option is usually preferred to giving out fines, and is often applied to families who may struggle financiallystruggle financially struggle financially which causes their child to be absentabsentabsent from school, be it due tobe it due to be it due to a family being unable to afford travel costs or the time away from their work to take the children to school personally.
What is interesting, it’s not only the UK where things can get serious when a pupil decides to skip a class or two. In Poland, every child aged 7 to 18 is subject to school duty or, in other words, the duty to attend school. It means they must go to school or else their parents will pay a fine. Sounds familiar?
What do you think? Is it fair for the parents of these misbehavingmisbehaving [misbehave]misbehaving children to be the ones to be punished? Or do you think it should be the child misbehaving who should pay the pricepay the pricepay the price for their actions?

According to my point of view, although children should be supervised by their parents, they could also learn a lesson if faced with some repercussions of their own decisions. What is more, I don’t see any point punishing parents for something they haven’t done.
