US GovernmentHow much do you know about the US governmentgovernment? There is the presidentpresident and some politicianspoliticians who control the country but there are also other people who care about the US.
First of all, the US has the oldest ConstitutionConstitution among the most powerful countries in the world. It is the most important document with a set of lawslaws.
A very important part of the Constitution says that the government has got three branchesthree branches: the Executive BranchExecutive Branch, the Legislative BranchLegislative Branch and the Judicial BranchJudicial Branch. All of them are very important.
What is the role of each of them?
Let’s start with the Executive Branch. The leaderleader of the branch and the head of statehead of state who signs the laws is the president of the United States. He is the one who can say no to a law. The president lives and works in a special building called the White HouseWhite House. If you want to visit the White House, you should go to Washington D.C. Look for a huge all‑whiteall‑white house with a big garden and a fountain. In the Executive Branch, there is also a vice presidentvice president and the CabinetCabinet who help the president to make decisions.
Next, there is the Judicial Branch. It is about laws and judgingjudging. At the top of the Judicial Branch, there is the Supreme Courtthe Supreme Court. This court can change the decisions of other courts. It can make final decisionsmake final decisions. You can say that it is the most powerfulpowerful court in the US.
The Congress makes the Legislative Branch. It makes the lawmakes the law. It consists ofconsists of two parts: the House of Representatives and the SenateSenate. In the House of RepresentativesHouse of Representatives, there are 435 representativesrepresentatives who serve 2 years. People choose and vote forvote for representatives in electionselections. The populationpopulation of a state decides how many representatives the state will have. The Senate has 100 membersmembers who serve 6 years. The Congress has meetings in the building called the CapitolCapitol. It’s another all‑white building in Washington D.C.
As you can see, there are many people in the US government who care about the country.
