  1. Sound wave is an longitudinal mechanical wave propagating in the elastic medium, causing the effect of hearing in people.

  2. The basic sound features are:

  • Timbre - allows you to distinguish two sounds from different sources at the same volume and altitude.

  • Height of sound - depends on the frequency of vibration of the medium.

  • Volume - depends on the intensity of the sound wave.

  1. The transverse wave is called the wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the wave propagation.

  2. The longitudinal wave is the wave in which the particles of the medium vibrate in the direction of the wave propagation.

  3. The velocity of the wave propagation depends on the density and elastic properties of the medium in which the wave propagates. In addition, it should be emphasized that longitudinal waves in the solid body propagate about 1,5 times faster than transverse waves.
