Exercise 3

Study the dialogues and then decide which answer is correct.

Dialogue 1:

OL (old lady) - Excuse me, can you help me, young man?

B (boy, aged 15) - Of course. What’s the problem?

OL - I need to choose one of these options.  I have no idea what the difference is between them.

B - Let me see. Well the first one means that you will get the order very fast, the next day maybe. The second means that you will get your order directly to your home. If you decide on this one, you will be able to get the order at the post office or any place you choose from here.

OL - Oh, now I understand. I think I’ll get this one. Thank you so much.

B - No problem.

At a fast food restaurant.

C (customer, aged 35) - Excuse me, this self‑service kiosk shows that the chocolate cookies are not available but I can see them right before my eyes.

RW (restaurant worker, aged 25) - Those cookies?

C: Yes, those that are right there, five inches from me.

RW: Let me check the system. Oh, yes, sorry. I forgot to click the “available” icon just after they had been baked.

C: I thought that this machine reduces human errors.

RW: It does. I made a mistake, not the kiosk.

C: Yes, I can see.

RW: I guess you can order the cookie now.
