Decide your criteria

Where to look
You have a few options. Friends’ or other students’ recommendations are usually the best options. C) ... Search the internet for student forums where information about flats and rooms is exchanged. When already in the UK, check the university notice boardnotice board for other students’ adverts. You may have to attend a few castings to find flatmates. You can also access university websites as the institutions provide contact details for approved landlordsapproved landlords. Another option is to use the services of a letting agencyletting agency. This last alternative requires the least of your engagement in the process but will definitely be the most costlycostly.
Formalities
Whoever you decide to rent from, to be on the safe sideto be on the safe side, make sure they are part of the Association of Residential Lettings Agents, or ARLA for short, or another regulatory bodyregulatory body. If you rent from an approved landlord, you can be sure that your rights as a tenanttenant will be protected, and the standard of your accommodation will be adequate. Make sure you read carefully and understand the tenancy agreementtenancy agreement as it is a legally binding documentlegally binding document. Be prepared to pay in a four‑week depositdeposit. Watch out for
Don’t be tempted by super offers, which look too good to be truetoo good to be true, as those may turn out to be scamsscams. Pay attention to details such as what is included or not in the rent. If an offer looks outstandingly attractive, it may turn out that on top of your rent you will also have to pay household billshousehold bills such as water, heating, and wi‑fi. As a full‑time student you will not have to pay council taxcouncil tax, so be careful if anybody asks you to contribute to that.
