II. Programming and solving problems by using the computer and other digital devices. The student:

3) develops and presents solutions to problems by using basic applications (a text and image editor, a spreadsheet, a programme for creating a multimedia presentation) on the computer or in a cloud to demonstrate the following skills:

c) using a spreadsheet for solving tasks associated with simple calculations, entering datadatadata into a worksheet, formating cells, defining simple formulas and selecting appropriate charts for the data and the objectives of calculations.

Introductionm8b4840bb28d6191d_1528450127855_0Introduction

The task of the students is to revise the information about charts.

At the beginning of the lesson the students answer the questions:

1. What is a chart?
2. What is it intended for?
3. What chart types do you know?
4. Should the chart type be adjusted to the presented datadatadata?

We live in a world full of information. The quantity of data that surround us is enormous. The eye‑catching ways of presenting data enable to absorb them more easily. If you combine functionality with the aesthetics of presenting data, they will be more understandable for an audience. One of the methods of the graphical presentation of data are charts.

Procedurem8b4840bb28d6191d_1528446435040_0Procedure

chartchartchart is a graphical format for presenting data volatility. Charts are often used to make it easier to understand large quantities of data and the relationship between different series of data. A chart can present tabulated numerical data, functions and other more complicated structures.

In order to create a chart in Excel, you must enter numerical data which will be represented in the form of a chart. After selecting the data, you can quickly create a chart by selecting the type of chart you want on the Insert tab, in the Charts group. Excel supports a variety of chart types. Adjust the choice of a chart to the type of data you want to present. You can create a combination chart by using more than one chart type in your chart.

chartchartchart in Excel has several elements whose parameters can be edited independently.

The chart elements include:
1. The chart area.
2. The plot area.
3. The data points.
4. The horizontal (category) and vertical (value) axis along which the data are plotted in the chart.
5. The legend of the chart.
6. The chart and axis titles.
7. A data label that you can use to identify the details of a data point in a data series.

The students do the following tasks independently. They select the appropriate charts in their opinion for presenting data. At the end they compare the effects of their work and answer the questions:

- What chart types were selected the most often in the particular tasks?

- Which of the proposed charts present the datadatadata the best?

Task 1

On the internet, find the information about the number of lynx, wildcats, wolves, bears and bisons in Poland. Create a chart which in your opinion is the most appropriate for presenting these data.
