Hi, my name is Dorothy. I want to tell you about Halloween. It is always on the 31st of October. This is how my family and I celebratecelebrate Halloween.
We always decoratedecorate the house on Halloween. We put on decorations like pumpkinspumpkins, bats and spiders. My dad hangs outhangs out a skeletonskeleton that you can see in the dark. We usually buy big pumpkins to make Jack‑o'-lanternsJack‑o'-lanterns. Do you know how to make a Jack‑o'-lantern? I draw eyes, a nose and a big smile on a pumpkin and my dad cuts them out with a knifewith a knife. Then my mum lights a candlelights a candle insideinside. We put Jack o'Lanterns in front of our house.
Food is also very important on Halloween. We help my mum make my favourite pumpkin piepumpkin pie and scaryscary pizzas. We also make biscuits and cookies in the shape of spiders, ghostsghosts and monsters. I really like Halloween food.
In the evening, we put on our fancy‑dress costumesfancy‑dress costumes on, take our Halloween candy bucketsHalloween candy buckets and go trick‑or‑treatinggo trick‑or‑treating in our street. Younger children usually walk with their parents. We don’t. We walk in groups with our friends. We knock on the doorknock on the door and when someone opens, we shoutshout “trick or treattrick or treat!” People usually give us sweets and chocolates. It is always great fun.
We also have a Halloween party at home. Everybody wears fancy‑dress costumes. There are witcheswitches, wizardswizards, zombies, skeletons, ghosts, vampiresvampires and monsters. We always choose the best Halloween costume. We sing and dance a lot. We always play Halloween games. Apple bobbingApple bobbing is fun, because you have to take out an apple from a bowlbowl with water. And you can’t use your hands! Apples on stringsApples on strings are fun, too. You have to eat an apple on a string and you can only use your mouth.
Halloween is always so much fun. It is my favourite festival of the year!
