Network interface controllers are implemented on expansion cards or as devices connected to a USB port. Most of the devices available on the market are equipped with at least one network interface controller. The most popular are wired Ethernet network interface controllers and wireless local area network (WLAN) interface controllers.

A network administrator is a person designated in a given organization who is responsible for maintaining the computer network infrastructure. His or her role is to ensure the continuity of the operations and the security of the administered computer network. The position requires a breadth of knowledge in the field of computer and network hardware and software.
