View the photo gallery. Consider how the presented objects can be associated with the European Union. You can share your conclusions with the rest of the class.
Watch a short documentary about the investments in Poland financed by the European Union. Pay attention to these sectors of the economy, which gained the most. Then solve the exercise.
Match the phenomenons and actions with the sector of economy they had the biggest effect on. For example: activation of the unemployed – decrease of unemployment
high quality of products, emigration, training courses financed by the EU, construction of freeways and expressways, construction of science centres, construction of community centres, construction of airports, switching to a more free market economy, direct payments and subsidies, activation of the unemployed

Here are a couple of projects, that hope to receive the European funding. Check if they fulfill the basic requirements and tick the ones that do.
- A local government is planning to build a sewage farm.
- Company SiP wishes to create new working places, but plans to employ only young men.
- The Magistrate is planning to renovate the sidewalks to make it more convenient for the disabled to move around.
- The Labour Office wishes to broaden the offer of their computer courses for the unemployed over the age of 50.
- The Magistrate is planning to build a couple of footbridges over a very busy road, but the project does not include any wheelchair or bicycle ramps, and tens of trees have to be cut down during the construction.
Split into groups of 4. Each group has to prepare a small project for an investment that could be financed from European Funds. Your task is to prepare a proposal. Make sure you project fulfils all the conditions (sustainable development, equal opportunities, information society), and contains the following points:
Description (maximum 7000 signs including spaces) – What is your project about?
Place and time of realisation – When (how long) and where will your project take place?
AimAim and justification – What do you want to achieveto achieve and why?
Current situation (needs) – What is the situation now and what do you want to change? What do you need?
Effects – Who will be affected? How? To what extent?
Innovation – How is your project different to what was already done so far?
Complementarity – How does you project relate to what was done so far?
Listen to the abstract recording to review the material and new vocabulary. Then do the vocabulary exercise. Match the pairs: English and Polish words.
