Publisher - wholesaler - bookseller. Information flow.
The text is a content of an e‑mail with an abstract of an article sent to the trade magazine New Books on the function of catalogues and bibliographies in the work of a publisher, wholesaler and bookseller.
Good morning,
I am sending you an abstract of the article. Please provide me with information, when should I send the whole material.
“Currently there is a need for a constant collaboration between institutions that create the bibliography systembibliography system and the publishers and booksellers. The publisherpublisher, wholesalerwholesaler and booksellerbookseller are interested in the information about the publication reaching the buyer as soon as possible through proper bibliography; a bibliographybibliography that also contains information important for trade. A bibliographer would want to find out about the book as soon as possible, to ensure obtaining copies necessary to make a description, and, at the same time, to adjust the bibliographic description to the needs of the bibliography users. Bookseller’s bibliographyBookseller’s bibliography can have a general range, but it can also have a limited range and reach. In an increasing number of countries the current bibliographycurrent bibliography type is becoming more and more popular. It is called „Books in Print” and it is intended for handling a broad market of publications. Many forms of information were created in the process of trading in books and other types of documents. It allows to support the work of: publishers, wholesalers, distributorsdistributors or bookshopsbookshops. It is also used by organisers of book fairsbook fairs and auction salesauction sales.”
