Hi, my name is Mike Myers and I am here to tell you about today’s transport challenges. As you know, today's transport adds a lot to the greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide emissions. 

The environment is polluted because of transport. Of course, I am not here to tell you scary stories but to educate and suggest some examples of what you can do. 

Let’s start with the carbon footprint we leave when we travel. Did you know that in 2019 the average British person produced about 7 tonnes of carbon dioxide that polluted the air? How is it possible? Well, we need to think about cars, planes, and even trains. Cars are the worst here, because they do not carry many passengers while they produce a lot of pollution. Trains and planes are a bit better as they carry more passengers. 

So what should we do, you may ask. Should we stop travelling? I don’t think it is possible. There are several things we can do as individuals in order to reduce pollution that transport makes. 

First of all, we should definitely think carefully about what kind of transport we choose. Then, we should avoid car travel wherever it is possible. It doesn’t have to be public transport, but you may consider active transport like skateboards, bikes, or scooters. 

Then we should always consider walking and cycling instead of using vehicles that emit harmful gases. But that is only in our local area, definitely. I can’t imagine walking from town to town.

Another good option is to try to use public transport as often as possible. No matter what kind of transport it is, it will always reduce carbon emissions. Can you imagine that one bus may reduce up to 50 cars on the roads? 

Our small everyday choices can make a difference as well. You may be surprised, but even when you make your shopping choices you can reduce your carbon footprint. It really makes a difference when you do your online shopping and order goods to delivery lockers instead of bringing them to your house. 

I would like you to understand how important it is for us to change the way we think. However, I’m not asking you to erase cars totally. We just need to be more responsible when we use them. Will your parents and grandparents be happy with what I’m saying? Definitely not. Their generations learnt to depend on cars. That is why I see a chance in you and your generation. I believe we have a choice and I am asking you to consider what is good for you and your future. Do we want to live in a world with clear air or in a world with smog and pollution?
