SCENA 1
Anna - Oh dear, Mum, there is so much to be done before we move. It’s the middle of May, and there are only two months left. Will we make it?
Kate - I don’t think we have a choice. It seems we have to be extremely well organised and act effectively. Here, I’ve prepared a plan. If we stick to it, we will make it.
Anna - You’ve done a moving checklist, Wow! I’m impressed.
Kate - We really have to do the job well. I divided the tasks into three different groups to be done in three different time periods.
Anna- Smart. Two months left, a million things to be done. Where do we start?
Kate - With decluttering, definitely. There are two months to go. During this time we have to collect as many boxes as possible. I don’t want to pay for things I can get for free. Every time you are in a shop in town, look around and search for cardboard boxes and other storage supplies. I believe there are tons of treasures hidden in your room. Things like souvenirs, pictures, books, or CDs, so the sooner you start to sort out your belongings, the better. I will also pack all the things that we hardly ever use, like pots and special dishes.
Anna - It ‘s such a pain in the neck when I think of it. But, I will sort it out, I promise.
Kate - Remember to get rid of things you don’t need any more. You might donate those which are in good condition, so that somebody else can use them.
Anna - Ok, I’ll do it. What will you focus on, Mum?
Kate - I need to deal with all the institutions.
Anna - What do you mean?
Kate - I will inform our local council first that we are changing the address so they will send all the documents right there. Then I will phone an internet provider about the change of address. I will notify the bank as well. I also have to register at a new GP’s since we are moving to a new area.
Anna - I understand, formal stuff first.
Kate - That’s right. No time to waste! And you young lady, start sorting out your stuff.
SCENA 2
Anna- Mum, are all the official changes you planned done? You know, banks, doctors, insurance providers, etc?
Kate - They’re done. It was a perfect idea to do it first as all official business takes a long time to complete. But the opening stage is finalised. Now it’s time for the next step. We have two weeks before moving out.
Anna - What needs to be done now?
Kate - There are not more than two weeks to go, so I think it’s high time we let people know about our new address. Can you send our close friends and family members the message with new details, please?
Anna - Sure I can. I will do it at once!
Kate - I’m going to work in the kitchen today. I will empty and defrost and dry out the freezer and clear out the cupboards. I will leave only the necessities for the last week here. The rest will be packed. I need to double check the garage and loft to see if I have packed everything from there. Can you call the removal company to confirm the moving date?
Anna - I can, just give me their phone number.
Kate - I think some things still need dismantling. Like a bookshelf in the living room. The books are already packed, so there’s no point in leaving it standing like that. Let’s dismantle and wrap it with tape. Anna, it’s important we pack all the valuables like jewellery and documents. If you have already done so, give me the things, and I will keep them safe.
Anna - Do you think I should also pack and give you my tablet?
Kate - I think so. We should have all the essentials like chargers or keys in one handy box.
Anna - Mum, I think we should put all the packed boxes downstairs.
Kate - You’re right. Let’s do it now.
SCENA 3
Kate - All right. Everything is packed, the removal van will be here in three hours. Let’s make sure we haven’t skipped anything.
Anna - Good idea. I’m just terribly tired.
Kate - I know. The last weeks have been intense. Did you strip the bed and pack the pillows and everything into the box?
Anna - I did.
Kate - And packed a box of first night essentials with the towels, toothbrushes, pijamas et cetera?
Anna - Here’s the box with the essentials!
Kate - Have you checked the toilets?
Anna - Yep.
Kate - Closed the windows?
Anna - Windows closed.
Kate - Mobile phones charged?
Anna - Batteries full.
Kate - That seems to be everything… One last thing… I need to record the utility metre readings for water, gas, and electricity. I’m going to take a photo of the metre.
Anna - So Mum… it’s time to say goodbye to our house…
Kate - …and hello to the new one!!!!
