There are many orienteering events all around the world and some of them became famous worldwide.
The Jukola Relay is an orienteering race happening every year in Finland since 1949. Jukola is the biggest team orienteering event in the world. Teams of four people take part. The race always takes place on Saturday between the 13th and the 19th of June in different places around Finland. The starting time is around 11 pm when the sun sets. Runners often wear lights on their heads.The winning team crosses the finish line early on Sunday morning, around 6 or 7 am.
O‑Ringen orienteering festival takes place in Sweden. It started in 1965. It takes place every year in July, often in a different place. Orienteers from all over the world come to take part in the event. Everyone will find something for themselves because there are many categories to choose from. There are competitions for professionals, amateurs, teams and individuals, young or old runners. There are even 90‑year old runners who take part in O‑Ringen.
Pomerania O‑Festival is an orienteering festival that takes place in Poland. There are two events in this festival. The first and biggest one, HARPAGAN, takes place twice a year. It started in 1989 and it is becoming more and more popular every year. The second event is called Harpuś, and here families with children are very welcome. They usually participate in teams. The event happens twice a month in different parts of Gdańsk, Gdynia, or Sopot.
