AUDIO 1. My favourite part of the job is designing and constructing buildings, roads, and bridges. I first draw them using computer programmes and then check if they will be safe for people to use. This job is all about precision. If I make a mistake, people may die. I work in my friend’s company and I have flexible working hours but I still never leave the office before 8 p.m.
AUDIO 2 Have a look at my designs! They are very modern and simple. Although you can buy cheaper things from a shop, my products are durable and made of different kinds of wood. I order it from a timber yard in Essex and cut it myself in different shapes and sizes and then consult clients on what kind of furniture they want. Scandinavian style? Provencal style? No problem! And I work with the best paints, too. The colour will look fresh, even if you clean your wooden table hundreds of times.
AUDIO 3 The best thing about my job? Definitely children. They are great, super fun, and enthusiastic. They learn a lot from me. It is very rewarding if they understand and remember facts from our classes. I’m so proud of the students who make it to university and follow an academic career. On the other hand, I hate checking homework and it takes me ages to mark my students’ essays!
AUDIO 4 The last time I was hurt at work was when I was fixing a lamp in an older couple’s house. The light was off and I was using my tool when the lady’s husband came in and turned it on unexpectedly. He was so quiet that we didn’t see him entering the kitchen. I got electrocuted and had to rush to the hospital. Fixing wifi is a much safer thing to do.
AUDIO 5 My job is very challenging. I have a lot of clients who I have to defend if they do something wrong. Sometimes, the judge doesn’t agree with me and has to punish my clients but most of the time I’m successful and the people I defend don’t have to go to jail or pay a fine. I work a lot and I have my personal assistant and we use a private detective, too.
AUDIO 6 My profession seems easy but actually, it’s one of the hardest. I work long hours from the early morning to late at night. First, I have to go to the market to buy fresh food. Next, I and my team prepare dishes and keep them in a huge fridge. When a guest orders something, we heat the food up, prepare fresh vegetables and fruit and decorate it so that the plate looks, smells, and tastes delicious.
AUDIO 7 If you ask me, the best car on Earth is a Ferrari. The engine is super powerful- it can achieve 100 km in 4 seconds. And yet I have never had a chance to fix such a car. I mostly repair less expensive ones, you know, for common people. And my prices are moderate. My place is open every day apart from holidays, so if your car ever breaks down, feel free to contact me.
AUDIO 8 I’ve always been told I’m good with numbers and maths was my favourite subject at school. I excelled in economics in college and there I met my mentor who offered me a job in his wife’s firm. We take care of taxes, people’s salaries, and we also keep information on how much money the firm has spent and earned per month or year. When we have a good month, we get a bonus in our paychecks so we are really motivated.
