Lesson plan overview

Before classes

  1. The teacher asks students to read the chapter: *Trudne zwycięstwo - angielskie problemy w Ameryce po wygranej wojnie* from e‑textbook. On its basis and knowledge from previous lessons, students perform Tasks 1 and 2 from e‑texbook.

Introduction

  1. The teacher gives the students the purpose of the lesson and the criteria for success.

  2. The teacher talks with students about their homework. Then, referring to the knowledge gained at home, he explains to them what the skirmish was the first armed clash from which the war for independence of british colonies in America began. The teacher explains to them the assumptions of the British policy of that time (including actions on Canada, taxes, etc.).

Realization

  1. Students listen to a teacher's short lecture on the American Revolutionary War. Then they execute Task 1. They analyze the map depicting the war of independence. They write down the fleets and armies of countries taking part in this war. Then, after searching the information on the Internet, they execute Task 1.

  2. The teacher draws the attention of students to the fact that the crucial issue in resolving this conflict were the British's problems in finding a strategic goal, which achieved would induce the other side to be considered defeated. Similarly, on the other hand, the Americans did not have the opportunity to attack targets directly in the metropolis, which made it difficult for the British to consider themselves defeated. Ultimately, therefore, the surrender act under Yorktown in 1781 became a convenient excuse to end the war. Students do Exercise 1.

Summary

  1. Students do Exercise 2. They analyze information about the final of the American Revolutionary War.

  2. The teacher gives students evaluation surveys in which they evaluate their own work during the lesson, the work of the teacher and colleagues.

Homework

  1. The teacher sets homework (it is not an obligatory part of the script): he recommends to do Exercise 1 of the e‑textbook. Students are also supposed to find the US Declaration of Independence in the Internet, and then to note / copy the most interesting fragments. The last element of the task is written justification of the choice.

For freedom

After the Seven Years War, Britain was in crisis. In order to improve the budget, the king charged the colonies with taxes. In 1765, the stamp act was introduced. This led to the outbreak of a specific action of „civil disobedience”. The reason for the opposition was the breaking of the principle of freedom and independence of the colonies because until now the colonists decided about taxes on their own. In 1773, there was another conflict between the colony and the metropolis. It has gone down in history as „Boston Tea Party”. The escalation of tempers in the colonies led to the outbreak of a war between the United Kingdom and the colonists from America in 1775. A year later - on 4 July 1776, 13 colonies declared independence. The fight ended only in 1783. Under the Treaty of Paris, the United Kingdom recognized the independence of the colony.
