Lesson plan overview (Process)

Before classes

Teacher before classes ask students to bring the material needed to work on lesson: clean envelope, a sheet of A4 paper, glue or adhesive tape.

Introduction

  1. The teacher defines the purpose of the course, which is developing the skill of proper addressing correspondence. Gives students the criteria for success.

  2. The teacher asks the students what they need to do to send someone a traditional letter. Replies pupils can write on the blackboard. Among the responses should show the action of inserting the letter in an envelope and addressing it.

  3. The teacher asks the students if they know how to properly address the envelope. Students share their knowledge, and conducting classes verifies it, paying attention to the following concepts: sender, recipient, address, zip code, postage, etc.

Realization

  1. The teacher starts the lesson, „The ABCs of addressing letters” (desktops, tablets, computer with a projector or interactive whiteboard). Students start recording and familiar with an introduction to the lesson.

  2. Students perform tasks 1 and 2. Teacher discusses them, paying attention to the composition of students address on the envelope (ref. 2) and the name of its components.

  3. The teacher asks the students if they know how and in what position on the envelope write the sender. The students then listens to the rest of the recording: „Addressing correctly”. The teacher draws students' attention to the graphics showing how to place data on the envelope sender. He explains that you can save them in two ways. By the way, the teacher should indicate to students place to put a postage stamp.

  4. The teacher asks the students if they know what does the abbreviation „Sz.P” visible on the envelope in the abstract. If you do not get the correct answer allows students to guess in Polish. During the lab, the teacher guides the students to the right answers. He explains to students that are more like shortcuts, and gives them.

  5. Students perform tasks 3 and 4 in the abstract.

  6. The teacher in this part of the lesson can perform exercise in which students will be addressed (for yourself, your family or friends) envelope. This exercise can be extended to homework (content below).

  7. Then the teacher sums up this part of the lesson and explains the importance of the postal code. Students listens to another part of the recording: „Guiding codes”.

  8. The teacher asks the students if they know how to locate any place on the map, using the Internet. Perhaps among the answers will be the name of one of the locating applications, eg. Google Maps. The teacher invites students to watch the instructional video on how to use this application.

  9. The students perform the task 5 in pairs. If students have a problem with discussing the route to school in English, you can perform this exercise in the Polish language. In the same way, students perform the task 6, in pairs or in larger groups.

  10. The teacher can offer students additional training, for those interested: independent execution of the envelope based on the instructions contained in the film in the lesson „ABC Address” in the e‑manual.

Summary

  1. Teacher asks the students what they have learned today. Asks them to assess their own work in class. Maybe this purpose use a previously prepared questionnaire or perform oral evaluation.

  2. Students write in notebooks short, 2 or 3‑propositional note of the lessons.

Homework

Write a letter to a specific person, place it in an envelope addressed during the lesson, ask parents to buy a postage stamp and send the letter.

The ABCs of addressing letters

Do you like writing letters and/or postcards? Do you like receiving them from others? For a letter or postcard to reach its destination, it has to be correctly addressed.

Do you know what you should write on an envelope? Don’t worry, you’ll get to learn all about addressing letters today.

If you want to send letters and postcards, you must be able to address them correctly. What do you think which envelope is addressed correctly?

Remember to write the sender’s address on the envelope as well. That’s how the addressee knows where to send his or her reply. If a letter gets lost along the way and never reaches the addressee, the postman or the postwoman returns it to the sender.

As the sender, you can write your details in two places: either in the top left corner of the front of the envelope (the side without flaps) or at the top of the back of the envelope (the side with flaps). The addressee’s details should be on the front of the envelope, and, if you choose the first addressing option, you will have both addresses on the same side.

Look at the pictures. Compare and contrast.

Postal code or postcode is a series of digits and forms part of an address. Postcodes make it easier to sort mail and help make sure a letter reaches the addressee indicated on the envelope. Each city, town, village and district has its distinct postal code. If you need a Polish postal code, just go to the Poczta Polska (Polish Post) website and use its postcode search engine.

Use a paper or online map, e.g. Google Maps, to locate the address written on the envelope. Go to the e‑textbook and watch the video on the Google Maps app.

Watch „Wyprawa do Torunia” video from the “Adresowe ABC” lesson at epodreczniki.pl. You will learn from it how to use Google Maps app.
