Content management systems have become increasingly popular due to their extensive features, simple user and administrator interface, structural design and a huge number of modules. All operations can be performed without immense computer knowledge. Most CMSs are open‑source systems, developed by enourmous communities.

Nowadays, the most popular content management system is WordPress. Approximately 30% of operated web sites are based on this system. WordPress currently offers 50,000 plug‑ins and thousands of themes. It enables creating both websites and classic blogs.

Plug‑ins are programmes that add a specific feature to the basic functionality of a system. The examples of plug‑ins are: a newsletter, a discussion forum, a statistics system, the feature of an online shop.

Themes enable changing the appearence of a blog or a website, but also planning the layout of components on a webpage.

Adding, modifying and removing text, images, films, and even entire subpages and sections are performed with the use of a web interface. For typing, you can use a built‑in text editor, which facilitates text formatting.

The WordPress admin dashboard comprises options that enable to configure your website. Though the authors of the system have tried to minimise the number of settings needed to configure a website, you must be aware that Wordpress is an advanced product, including numerous options, which requires quite precise and time‑consuming configuration in order to use it professionally, but still advanced computer skills are not necessary.
