LESSON STAGES

Introductionm2e39c53aa78f3a0e_1528450127855_0Introduction

The teacher introduces the topic of the lesson: learning the functions of a text editor for modifying and editing text.

The teacher asks the students to give examples of operations which can be easily done in a text editor but are not possible on a piece of paper:

- copy and cut a part of the text,
- paste a block of the text in any location,
- move a part of the text from one position to another,
- remove a text from the document.

In order to perform the above operations, the user must first select the appropriate block of text. The selected part is highlighted.

Procedurem2e39c53aa78f3a0e_1528446435040_0Procedure

Select parts of the text

The simplest method for selecting a part of the text is to drag it with the mouse. Place the cursor at the beginning of the text you want to select, press the left mouse button and drag the cursor to the end of the area you plan to highlight. You can also select the text in the reverse direction. In order to select short parts of text you can use the keyboard: the combination of the SHIFT key and the arrow keys.

Watch the slide show and try yourself to select the text in the document using the methods shown in below.

To deselect a selected part of the text click anywhere within the document with the left mouse button. If you accidentally press any key when a part of the text is selected, it will be replaced by the pressed character. You can copy and move the text with the use of the clipboard by using:

- the commands on the toolbar;
- the pop‑up menu;
- the keyboard shortcuts.

Move a part of the text

You can move a part of the text by dragging it. This method does not involve the clipboard.

Text editors remember recent changes (or at least a certain number of them) and enable the user to undo and redo them. It is a very useful tool in cases when you, for example, accidentally delete a part of the text. To undo the changes, press the Undo button or Ctrl + Z. You can redo the changes by pressing the Redo button or Ctrl + Y.m2e39c53aa78f3a0e_1527752256679_0Text editors remember recent changes (or at least a certain number of them) and enable the user to undo and redo them.
