Lesson stages

Introductionm42b9cff632b326f7_1528450127855_0Introduction

Students revise together the construction of an angle and the types of angles.

Task 1

Students draw one acute, one straight and one obtuse angle.

The teacher informs students that during the lesson they will learn how to use a protractorprotractorprotractor to determine the measures of drawn angles and to draw angles with given measures.

Procedurem42b9cff632b326f7_1528446435040_0Procedure

The teacher explains to students the principle of using a protractorprotractorprotractor.

[Illustration 1]

Students work individually using computers.

Their task is to determine the measure of the drawn angle with accuracy of 1°.

Task 2

 [Geogebra Applet 1]

Task 3

Students work individually using computers.

Their task is to draw an angle with the given measure.

[Geogebra Applet 2]

Task 4

Students read the measures of angles drawn by them at the beginning of the lesson.

Task 5

Students draw straight angle and read its measure.

Task 6

Students draw angles with the measures of 30°, 90°, 120°.m42b9cff632b326f7_1527752263647_0Students draw angles with the measures of 30°, 90°, 120°.

Discussion - what are the measures of acute and obtuse angles? What is the measure of a right angle and a straight one?

Students should draw the following conclusions.

Acute angleacute angleAcute angle is greater than 0 ° but less than 90°.

Right angleright angleRight angle has the measure of 90°.

Obtuse angleobtuse angleObtuse angle is greater than 90° but less than 180°.

Straight anglestraight angleStraight angle has the measure of 180°.

Task 7

Students draw any angle. They mark points on both arms and the vertex and label them with letters.

They write down the name and the measure of the drawn angle, following the instructions:

1) instead of the word „angle” write the angle symbol: ∢,

2) write the angle name composed of letters written on the arms and at the vertex of the angle - the middle letter marks the vertex (e.g.: ∢ABC or ∢CBA),

3) write down the measure of the angle using vertical bars, e.g.: |∢ABC| = 30°.

Task 8

Students draw an angle of 210°.

Lesson summarym42b9cff632b326f7_1528450119332_0Lesson summary

Students perform consolidating exercises.

Afterwards,  they summarize the activities together, formulating conclusions to remember:

1. You can use a protractorprotractorprotractor to read the measure of a drawn angle and to draw an angle with the given measure.

2. Angle measures are given in degrees.

3. Between the type and the measure of an angle there are the following relationships: - acute angle is greater than 0° but less than 90°, - right angle has the measure of 90°, - obtuse angle is greater than 90° but less than 180°, - straight angle has the measure of 180°.
