The students prepare for the lesson:

- 10 cards with one of the following numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 written on each of the cards,

- the tape measure,

- paper clips.

The teacher introduces the topic of the lesson: discovering the multiple of the natural numbernatural numbernatural number. They are also going to identify the less common multiple of two natural numbers.

Task 1

The students work individually using their computers. They are going to analyse the slideshow concerning the multiple of number 5.

Discussion: Can we write down all the multiples of number 5 ? What number is the largestthe largestthe largest multiple of number 5? What number is the least multiple of number 5? Is zerozerozero the multiple of every natural numbernatural numbernatural number? What numbers are the multiples of zero? What set do the multiples of number 1 make?

The students can come up with the following conclusions:

- We cannot write all the multiples of number 5 because there is the infinite number of them.
- Zero is the least natural multiple of number 5 and any other natural number.
- Every multiple of zero equals zero.
- Natural multiples of number 1 make the set of natural numbers.

Task 4

Put the measure tape in front of you. Use the paper clips to determine first ten multiples of number 3. Next, using the paper clips determine first three multiples of number 9.

Answer the following questions:

Which numbers are indicated by using two paper clips?

Which number of these is the least?

Repeat the activity indicating first seven multiples of the number 12 and first three multiples of number 30. Answer the questions again.

Task 5

The students work individually using their computers. They are going to analyse the interactive illustration presenting the method of calculating the least common multiplethe least common multiplethe least common multiple of two numbers.

Looking at the illustration the students calculate the least common multiple of the natural numbers.

Task 6

The students work in pairs. One student draws two of the cards they have prepared for the lesson. The other student determines and writes by using the abbreviation LCM , the least common multiple of the drawn numbers. Next, the students swap their roles and repeat the activity three times.

Task 7

Two ships leave the harbour at the same time on 2nd of July. The first one takes the cruises which last for 6 days, the other the cruises for 8 days. Which day are the ships going to meet at the harbour again?

An extra task:

There are less than 30 students in a class. The teacher cannot divide them into groups of six or eight, because there is always one student left. How many students are there in this class?
