Lesson stages

Introductionm07a1f90220bb2ac1_1528450127855_0Introduction

The students bring small cardboard box in a shape of the cuboidcuboidcuboid e.g. the carton of juice or milk.

Every student brings the following figures to the class:

- six squares with the side of 3 cm,

- two rectangles with the dimensions of 2 cm by 4 cm,

- two rectangles with the dimensions of 2 cm by 5 cm,

- two rectangles with the dimensions of 4 cm by 5 cm.

The teacher introduces the topic of the lesson: identifying the nets of the cuboids and cubes. They are going to find out how to draw the nets of pyramids.

Revision of the cuboids and the cubes and their elements.

Procedurem07a1f90220bb2ac1_1528446435040_0Procedure

There are many examples of objects in the shape of cuboids (cubes) e.g. blocks of flats, wardrobes, dice, etc.

Task 1

The students put 3D glasses on and watch the animations below. They are going to watch what elements the nets of the cuboidcuboidcuboid and the cubecubecube consist of.

[Slideshow 1]

[Slideshow 2]

After watching the animation the students share their opinions answering the following questions:

- How many squares does the netnetnet of the cubecubecube consist of?

- How many figures does the netnetnet of the cuboidcuboidcuboid consist of?

- Is there only one netnetnet of the cuboidcuboidcuboid and the cubecubecube?

Task 2

The students cut out the boxes they have brought along the edge to get their nets. They describe what figures the nets consist of.

The students should draw the following conclusions:

- the netnetnet of cubecubecube consists of six squares,

- the netnetnet of cuboidcuboidcuboid consists of the rectangles,

- there are some nets of the cuboidcuboidcuboid and the cubecubecube.

The netnetnet of the cuboidcuboidcuboid is a plane figure of which the modelmodelmodel of cuboid can be made. The netnetnet of the cuboidcuboidcuboid consists of three pairs of identical rectangles.

Task 3

The students draw the net of the cuboid with the dimensions of 2 cm × 3 cm × 4cm.m07a1f90220bb2ac1_1527752263647_0draw the net of the cuboid with the dimensions of 2 cm × 3 cm × 4cm.

Task 4

The students stick the figures into their notebooks in order to get the nots of the cuboidcuboidcuboid and the cubecubecube.

An extra task:

The classroom in a shape of the cuboidcuboidcuboid has the dimension of 8 m x 6 m x 4 m. Make the modelmodelmodel of the cuboidcuboidcuboid using the scale of 1:200.

Lesson summarym07a1f90220bb2ac1_1528450119332_0Lesson summary

Students do the exercises summarizing the class.

Then, together they sum up the classes, drawing the conclusions to memorise:

- The netnetnet of the cuboidcuboidcuboid is a plane figure of which the modelmodelmodel of cuboidcuboidcuboid can be made.

- The netnetnet of the cuboidcuboidcuboid consists of three pairs of identical rectangles.

- The netnetnet of the cube consists of six identical squares.
