Introductionm1ecfb5a2bb3903f7_1528450127855_0Introduction

The teacher initiates a discussion about how the students understand the terms ‘savoir‑vivre’ and ‘etiquette’etiquette‘etiquette’.

Savoir‑vivre is the awareness of customs and conventional norms governing individual behaviour that apply within a given group.

Etiquette is the set of  social conventions, customs and the norms of behaviour that apply within a given social group or a community.m1ecfb5a2bb3903f7_1527752256679_0Etiquette is the set of  social conventions, customs and the norms of behaviour that apply within a given social group or a community.

Procedurem1ecfb5a2bb3903f7_1528446435040_0Procedure

When communicating over the internet, the same basic social conventions  and cultural norms governing behavior apply as those applied in everyday life. Complying with these principles and caring for the quality of communication affect your image, i.e. how you are perceived by other internet users.m1ecfb5a2bb3903f7_1527752263647_0When communicating over the internet, the same basic social conventions  and cultural norms governing behavior apply as those applied in everyday life. Complying with these principles and caring for the quality of communication affect your image, i.e. how you are perceived by other internet users.

NetiquettenetiquetteNetiquette is a colloquial term referring to a set of social conventions that apply when communicating over the internet. The principlesprinciplesprinciples of netiquette result directly from:

- obligation to respect law,
- decency,
- the principles and standards of behaviour specific for a given service.

Netiquette is only a set of recommendations. However, when you conform to them, you will be on good terms with other internet users and avoid the risk of their criticism.

The consequences of disobeying netiquette:

Disobeying netiquette may affect your image and, moreover, it can be reported to the administrator of a given service and in consequence your access to it may be blocked. The serious violation of law may result in the incident being reported to law enforcement authorities.

Many legal regulations forbid to upload to the internet the content which:

- violates social norms,
- encourages to commit offenceoffenceoffence,
- offends other national, social and religious groups,
- insults or defames a person,
- promotes forbiddenforbiddenforbidden substances,
- violates the copyrightcopyrightcopyright,
- violates the act on data protection.

While communicating with other people over the internet:

- create appropriate messages and avoid emotional statements,
- do not provoke,
- do not create overly approving or disapproving messages,
- do not manipulate,
- avoid aggression,
- do not use explicit language,
- respect the law,
- obey the principlesprinciplesprinciples included in the terms and conditions of services.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) is a set of frequently asked questions and answers to them which explain the most common issues to new users. Apart from the terms and conditions of services, the FAQ list is a content which can provide many helpful comments.

Task 1

The teacher divides the students into four groups. The task of each group is to create netiquettenetiquettenetiquette for different types of services or users:

- electronic mail,
- instant messaging,
- the users of social media,
- the authors of web pages.

NetiquettenetiquetteNetiquette is culturally conditioned, which means that it varies significantly in different parts of the world.
