Introductionm9a68f6cdde0cdc0c_1528450127855_0Introduction

The teacher initiates a short discussion.

- What is communicationcommunicationcommunication?
- What is needed in order to communicate?

Task 1

Chinese whispers. The teacher divides the students into two groups. They form a line and the first person from each group receives a text on a piece of paper (the same for both groups). In the end the last person from each group announces the message he or she heard. The teacher reveals the text which was handed to the students at the beginning of the game.

- Were the two versions of the message different in terms of vocabulary and meaning?
- What steps need to be taken in order to prevent the distortion of information?
- What factors influence a message?

Procedurem9a68f6cdde0cdc0c_1528446435040_0Procedure

The ability of people to communicate with one another and the transmission of data and information are called communicationcommunicationcommunication. In order to communicate, a sendersendersender and a receiverreceiverreceiver are needed.

Chinese whispers is an example of verbal communication, i.e. the type of communication with the use of words as a medium of conveying information (data).

When words are replaced with gestures, images or sounds, then we deal with non‑verbal communication.

In terms of the location of communicating people we can divide communication into:

- direct communication – the communication participants are in one place,
- indirect communication – the communication participants make use of communication media (letters, telephone, the Internet) which are used by the groups of people who want to communicate over a distance.

Task 2

Look at the pictograms in the illustration. On the Internet find information which will help you create a timeline. Place on it the elements of the interactive illustration. If it is possible, try to include dates (even approximate, i.e. the 1970s).

The field of technology and science that deals with the transmission of any kind of information over a distance is telecommunicationtelecommunicationtelecommunication.

The media of telecommunicationtelecommunicationtelecommunication processes may be divided into:

- traditional media – for example: writing, paper and mail,
- electronic media – for example: the computer, a telecommunicationtelecommunicationtelecommunication network or the Internet.

Electrical signals and radio waves play a particular role in the electronic communicationcommunicationcommunication media.

Task 3

What devices do you use to communicate?

What programmes and applications on the computer or the smartphone do you use to communicate?

The features of electronic communication:
- the possibility to communicate over a distance,
- fast information flow,
- the social diversity of communicating people,
- no territorial limits,
- no time limits,
- false sense of anonymity (which has nothing to do with reality as it is possible to follow individuals on the Internet).
