Exercise 3

Jan is making a cone‑shaped paper hat for a birthday party. How many cmIndeks górny 2 of paper will he use to make the hat if the perimeter of his head is 52 cm and the altitude of the hat is supposed to be 60 cm? Present your reasoning in English.

You need to calculate the lateral surface area of the cone $P = π \cdot r \cdot l$ .
We calculate the base radius of the cone using the formula for the perimeter of a circle:
$52 = 2 \cdot π \cdot r$ , so $r = \frac{26}{π}$ .
Using the Pythagoras Thorem we can calculate the length of the slant height
$l = \sqrt{60^{2} + {(\frac{26}{π})}^{2}}$ .
Thus $P = π \cdot \frac{26}{π} \cdot \sqrt{60^{2} + {(\frac{26}{π})}^{2}}$ , which is 1574,8 cmIndeks górny 2 approximately.
