In today’s episode of “The Sports Expert” we are going to tell you about American football and one of the most popular sporting events in the world: The Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl is the name of an annual championship game of the National Football League, in short – the NFL. It has been one of the most loved sporting events in the US. Since 2004, the game has been played on the first Sunday in February – it is called Super Bowl Sunday.
Let’s have a look at these awesome facts before you accept your invitation to a Super Bowl party! Remember these numbers and you will sound like a Super Bowl expert!
Super Bowl Sunday is a special day for Americans. They organise parties and barbecues to watch the game together with their friends or relatives. During the match they eat massive amounts of snack food – over 14,000 tonnes of chips are eaten together with 8 million pounds of guacamole sauce!
The cost of a 30‑second TV commercial shown on Superbowl Sunday is truly absurd – it’s around $5 million!
The 2015 game was watched on TV by 114 milllion people – that’s a really huge audience!
One of the gigantic Super Bowl stadiums can hold 70 thousand spectators.
In the 1960s, a single ticket for the game cost 12 dollars. Now, the price can be absolutely crazy– three thousand dollars!
Famous American pop groups and singers perform during the break in the game – it is called the “halftime show”. In 2015, Katy Perry was watched by 120 million people!
I hope you feel like a Super Bowl expert now! The ball is in your court! Give us a call if you would like to try it! If you feel American football is out of your league, the next episode will offer something just for you. We are going to talk about a game that can last as long as five days. You are going to find out about… cricket. So keep your eye on the ball and till next time!
