Slajd 1. Weather rules our lives. When it’s sunny and warm, we play outside. When it’s cold and windy, we stay inside our homes. Sometimes, the weather is so terrible that we should simply stay home, or even get help to be safe. Let’s have a look at some of the extreme weather events from around the world.
Slajd 2. A tornado is a very fast wind tunnel that destroys everything in its way. It spins and moves at great speed. Tornados can come with rain and hail. They look very scary. They’re also very dangerous. Most tornadoes happen in the United States. When you see a tornado, it’s good to hide in the basement.
Slajd 3. A small rain like a drizzle doesn't make a flood. A flood happens when it rains heavily and the water spills from lakes and rivers. Floods happen everywhere in the world. They destroy houses, shops, and streets. People need to leave their things behind and look for a safe place. It is important to try to stop floods. People build defences so floods don’t happen.
Slajd 4. Hail happens when it rains ice. When the weather is freezing, drops of rain turn into ice balls. The ice balls can be very big. Some of them are as big as cricket balls! When they fall down, they destroy aeroplanes, cars and crops. They can hit people and injure them, too. When it hails, the best idea is to stay inside.
Slajd 5. Dust storms happen when strong winds move sand around. There is so much sand in the air during a dust storm that everything gets dark and people can’t see what’s in front of them! Dust can make you cough, so it’s best to stay inside. Dust storms aren’t as dangerous as floods or tornadoes, but they are bad for the environment. Crops can’t grow because of dust storms! Sometimes there is also a storm with snow called a blizzard.
Slajd 6. Thunderstorms happen when hot air meets cool parts. Big clouds, heavy rain, and lightning… A thunderstorm is a storm with thunder and lightning. It is important to stay away from trees because lightning hits the tallest objects. You may be struck by lightning or the tree may fall on you.
Slajd 7. Heat waves are when it’s very hot and very humid. When it’s extremely hot and humid for a long time, we can talk about heat waves. It can be dangerous for people and animals. It’s a good idea to drink a lot of water and stay at home.
Slajd 8. A drought is when there is no rain for a long time. It can be a serious problem for farmers and animals because plants can’t grow.
Slajd 9. Heatwaves, droughts, and… wildfires! Wildfires happen when it’s hot and dry for a long time. They sometimes happen after thunderstorms. Wildfires are the result of extreme weather. They are dangerous for all of nature: people, animals, and plants. Wildfires are not easy to stop.
Slajd 10. Extreme weather like floods, tornados, wildfires, or hail can be dangerous for nature. Weather can be calm like a lamb when it’s sunny, but it can also be extremely dangerous. The weather can change our daily plans as well as destroy a lot of things like crops or houses.
