Hi there, it’s Emily Jones from Learn & EnjoyenjoyEnjoy School again. This time, my blog is going to be about different extra activitiesextra activitiesextra activities. We call them clubsclubs [club]clubs at my school.
As you probably remember, my school is unusualunusualunusual, a bit different from typical schools in England. We have regularregularregular lessons only four times a week. And what about the fifth day? Each Friday is a Club Friday in our school. You may find it strange, but we love Club Fridays! We don’t have any lessons with our maths, biology or English teachers on Fridays. We only choose three or four of our favourite clubs. I love reading so on Friday Clubs I take part in the LiteratureliteratureLiterature club and the Detective club (this one is absolutely fantastic!). The last club I take part in is the Sign Language club.
Just to tell you in shortin shortin short about each of my clubs.
The Literature club starts quite early - at 8 a.m. This is because the classes are 3 hours long. First, we sit quietly and read a story our teacher, Mr Brown, brings us. Then we talk together about it and, finally, you won’t believe it, we try to write a different endingendingending to the story. This is fun. Sometimes our versionsversions [version]versions of the stories are very funny. Other times, we write something seriousseriousserious and sad. Once our friend Todd wrote a very sad ending to a story and we almost cried.
Then I take part in the Detective club – these classes are shorter, they lastlastlast only 1 hour and we move around the whole school. Our teacher, Ms Bean, gives us a mysterymysterymystery to solvesolvesolve and we have to look forlook forlook for the cluesclues [clue]clues or messagesmessagesmessages in different places at school. Last time, we had to go to other clubs’ classrooms – I went to the Judo club and the GymnasticsgymnasticsGymnastics club, and my friend Sam visited the RoboticsroboticsRobotics club and the Computer LablabLab.
The last club I take part in is the Sign Languagesign languageSign Language club – it’s very different from my reading clubs because we don’t say anything in the classroom. We have to stay quiet and try to use sign language to communicatecommunicatecommunicate. Sometimes, there is completecompletecompletesilencesilencesilence throughout the whole class – 45 minutes. It’s really difficult, but our teacher, Mr. Speaks, is very calmcalmcalm and patientpatientpatient.
There are many more clubs or extra activities in my school. For example, the Poetry club, the DramadramaDrama club or the MathsmathsMaths club. Next year, I would like to pickpickpick the Comic Bookcomic bookComic Book club and I want to try the CharitycharityCharity club. Finally, I want to join the Arts and Craftsarts and craftsArts and Crafts club because I love creating things on my own. I hope I will have time for everything!
