A City Like No OtherHi, I'm Sarah and I’d like to tell you about my city – Edinburgh. It is the capital of Scotland and there is no other place like it! It is a very old city, there are over 4,500 historical buildings! What is more, over 100 eventsevents and festivals take place here every year. I think Edinburgh has the best viewsviews in the world!
There are two main streetsmain streets in Edinburgh. The Royal MileRoyal Mile in the Old Town and Princes StreetPrinces Street in the New Town. The Royal Mile is 1.81 kilometres so it is a bit more than a milemile. Its name comes from the fact that queens and kings rode along this street from their castle to the palace.
You can see Edinburgh CastleEdinburgh Castle high on Castle RockCastle Rock. The castle was the residenceresidence of queens and kings and a prisonprison.
At the end of the Royal Mile stands the Holyrood PalaceHolyrood Palace. It is the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. There are also amazing Royal GardensRoyal Gardens.
Arthur’s SeatArthur’s Seat is the highest hill in Edinburgh. Some people believe that the legendary Camelot CastleCamelot Castle was here. It has the most beautiful view of the city.
If you like ghost stories, visit the Greyfriars KirkyardGreyfriars Kirkyard, probably the most famous graveyardgraveyard in the world. There is a great statuestatue of a dog called Bobby. Why is the statue of Bobby there? Come and check!
Princes Street is the main street in the New Town. It is definitely the city’s main shopping street. From there, you can get to Princes Street Gardens. Every December the gardens become “Winter WonderlandWinter Wonderland”. There is a winter market and an ice rinkice rink.
Edinburgh is great for sightseeingsightseeing. Everyone who likes history, magic and crazy festivals will love it. Just come and see it with your own eyes.
