Exercise 5
Familiarise yourself with the text below and choose the correct answers. A BLOG ENTRY
What went wrong…
I went cycling for the first time after the winter break last weekend. I guess “serves me right” is the best summary of what happened. Let’s start from the beginning. I personally believe that wearing     1. a helmet a chain a hose     while riding a bike should be an obligation and not the decision of a cyclist. Your head must be protected at all costs! Why I decided not to wear one is a question I don't know the answer to until this day.
I usually do a quick check-up before     2. putting off setting off calling off     to ensure a smooth ride, but last weekend was different in all possible ways. I just hopped on my bike without even inspecing my     3. dirt roads degreaser brake pads.     If I had, I wouldn’t probably have ended up having a head-on collision with another biker. That was exactly the moment I realised I hadn’t been wearing any head protection. Fortunately, both of us came out of the accident unharmed.
Soon after, I was taught another lesson. I had a flat     4. tire cog chain     and it turned out that my flat kit was still in the garage instead of in my     5. nooks and crannies pannier sprockets.     That’s when you learn that bikers are a community of people who are ready to support each other no matter what! I met some super nice guys who lent me     6. a spare gear a spare lever a spare tube.     If it hadn’t been for them, I would still be pushing my broken bike home!
