I think the deadliest natural disaster is an earthquake. It’s a series of tremors and aftershocks. As a result, buildings collapse. People have nowhere to hide.
I like watching natural disaster movies because they are very interesting. One of my favourite movies is called The Impossible and is about the tsunami that happened in Sri Lanka in 2004.
One of the natural disasters that occured in Poland was the flood in 1997. Some people think it was because of a heavy rainfall or a dam failure. A lot of rivers burst their banks and even cities like Wrocław were flooded.

You want to tell your friend from England about a famous natural disaster that happened in Poland/in the world. Write an email in which you:

explain why you are interested in the topic of natural disasters and where you found information about this natural disaster;
inform your friend when and where it happened;

As you know, I’m really into science and currently I’m learning about natural disasters at school.

Yesterday I watched a film about a serious earthquake and it got me even more into the topic, so I’d like to tell you a few things about it.

One of the deadliest natural disasters in human history happened in Sri Lanka in 2004 when there was an earthquake in the Indian Ocean. This earthquake caused a large tsunami.

As a result of the disaster, many people died and hundreds of them were displaced. A lot of people also suffered from water‑borne diseases.

Are there any natural disasters in your country? Could you tell me something about them? I’d like to use this information in my next school project.
