You must be kidding me!
A young girl: My problem has always seemed a bit weird to people when I started talking about it. I hate sweets! You probably can’t even imagine such a situation. Just like most people I know. “Why is it a problem?” you may ask. “At least you don’t have to fight obesity and visit a dentist too often”, they usually say. They are right but they don’t see my daily life from my perspective. Whenever I go to parties, visit people on their birthday or when there’s any other occasion to celebrate, people serve sweets. Cakes, biscuits, fizzy drinks, ice cream and so on. First, it’s really difficult to explain to your friends that you really do not feel like eating anything that contains sugar and it’s not because you’re on a diet or in a bad mood. Another thing is that quite often, there’s nothing else to eat, so I frequently leave parties hungry. Last but not least, many people tend to forget or ignore the fact that I hate sugar and I still keep getting birthday or Christmas gifts with sugary content. Am I going to eat it out of politeness? No, I’m not. It’s not a problem to share sweets with my sister and brother, but would you like to keep getting something you don’t like for your whole life? I don’t think so. Well, now you see, consuming too much sugar can probably cause as many problems as not eating it at all.
