Study the text and highlight in purple the five words or phrases connected with the conditions that some people treat with herbal remedies. Medicinal plants can be used to support the treatment of many diseases and medical conditions. For example, if you have inflammation of your skin, you may apply a herbal compress to relieve the symptoms. Also, some plants, like garlic, can lower high blood pressure. Many people suffer from motion sickness when travelling in vehicles and use herbal extracts to ease the nausea. However, you should be very careful when suffering from serious diseases like diabetes. Taking the wrong herbal remedy may worsen your condition. Always ask your doctor before taking any medication, alternative or conventional.

Last week we went on a school trip to visit a herbal garden. It was fantastic!

Herbs are used by the owner there to produce many natural remedies for various diseases. We saw a small workshop where herbal teas, infusions, and tinctures are made!

Herbal remedies have been used in medicine for generations. Some people buy herbal food supplements just because it has become trendy. However, herbal treatment has been proven effective in curing certain conditions by science.

Still, there are some risks connected with using them. For example, some plants can cause dangerous interactions with other medicines. Even garlic, which seems perfectly safe, should not be used before surgeries, as it thins blood. Would you believe it?

If you consider trying medicinal plants, it is a great idea as long as you keep safe. Don’t pick herbs you don’t know as they may contain dangerous toxins. Also, always speak to your doctor if you’re unwell before trying any therapy on your own.
